The Daily Skimm breaks down the daily headlines

The Daily Skimm is a newsletter by The Skimm. The Skimm is a digital media company that aims to give millennial women the news in a way that fits into their daily schedules. Here’s a link to their most recent Daily Skimm newsletter, which came out the morning of February 18, 2022.

The Daily Skimm focuses on one big news headline and 2-3 smaller headlines. What’s great about this is the reader can get deep knowledge on a current topic by only reading a few paragraphs. The writers put the news into digestible terms and describe events in ways that make sense to readers who don’t have precious knowledge on the subject. For example, this morning they talked about the Ukraine crisis in terms that I could understand as someone who had no previous knowledge on the subject.

What the Daily Skimm does extremely well, beyond just writing well, is that they know what they’re talking about. They take the time to be informed on the topics they write about and be experts so readers don’t have to be. This is a phenomenal way to stand out as a newsletter because it’s not just linking stories and writing short descriptions, they’re actually explaining the news as an expert but in a way that makes sense to millennial women.

To makes the newsletter interactive is that the writers link to sources and related articles so that if readers want to read more on a particular subject, they are guided exactly where to go. As a newsletter, this is good for the Skimm because they link to some of their other articles to keep readers engaged with their content.

The format of the Daily Skimm also makes it easy to "skim" and decide what to read or just to grasp an overview of the daily news. The Daily Skimm uses bolded font and different text sizes to organize the newsletter into sections. This format allows the Daily Skimm to be easy-to-read for their target audience - millennial women.
